A lot of us focus on our physical health and forget about our emotional health, but did you know that emotional stability plays an important role in our overall health? Essential Oils can help improve or resolve emotional issues safely, no side effects.
Let me explain why aroma affects the brain so powerfully. According to Dr. David Hill, D.C. (Chief Medical Advisor Chairman and Scientific Advisory Board for a large essential oil company), he explains how it works in the following. “The olfactory bulb is part of the limbic system in your brain. This is also known as our “emotional brain”. Odor stimuli in the limbic system release a series of brain chemicals. Lavender for example triggers serotonin, which has a relaxing effect on the mind and body. The olfactory bulb is the only place in the body where the central nervous system is exposed to the environment. Our brain is designed to use aroma to heal and soothe itself.”
When we get a cough, a sore throat, or a scrape we probably don’t hesitate to go use some essential oils, but when we are feeling down, stressed, or unable to relax; is our first instinct to use essential oils?
Uplifting Oils and How to Use Them
Citrus oils are great oils. I always feel better after smelling orange or lemon. Peppermint is also a good one, I find it very invigorating. The best way to find out which one works for you is by smelling and sampling it. It’s all about experimenting and finding the right oil for yourself. What works for one person may not work for you and that’s normal.
Here are some helpful suggestions on how to use the essential oils.
1. Diffuse uplifting oils during your morning routines for a great beginning to your day.
2. Don’t have a diffuser yet, no problem. Clear your mind and inhale directly from an open bottle, or rub a drop of oil between your palms and breathe in the aroma. Do this through out the day as many times as needed.
3. You can also apply your oils topically. Best places to apply are bottom of your feet, chest, temples, and pulse points.
4. Enjoy baths? Add 2-5 drops of an essential oil of your choice to the bath water. Oils to avoid in baths are Peppermint, Cinnamon, Cassia, Clove, Oregano, Wintergreen, and Lemongrass.
These suggestions are safe for children but start slowly and use small amounts. When using topically use with a carrier oil to avoid skin sensitivity. Please avoid applying where a child may rub oil in their eyes. If an oil is uncomfortable apply a carrier oil to help dilute and/or remove the essential oil, water does not remove oil and can make it worse.
Benefits of being Happy
According to research and studies, being happy has great benefits to your health. Since this isn’t a college paper I am not going to list all the research down, I’ll let you do all that “fun” stuff. I will however, tell you what I found.
Being happy helps you stay healthier. Happy people don’t get sick as much compared to people who are unhappy, and when they do their symptoms aren’t as bad. It also helps you lower your risk of Cardiovascular Diseases. That one isn’t a big surprise, we see it today, people who are stressed are more at risk, but did you know if you suffer from depression and other negative emotions you are several more times likely to have a heart attack and suffer from hypertension.
When you are happy you have more energy. Something I have noticed when I am in a good mood. Being happy helps you have better relationships. When you are happy you are more fun to be around and your happiness is contagious. When I am happy I notice I treat people way better then when I am not, and I know everyone wants to be treated nicely. If you work did you know being happy helps you be more productive, make better decisions, and think more creatively? I thought that was pretty awesome! With your better performance at work it could help you make more money by earning raises and/or promotions, who doesn’t want to earn more money. Last but definitely not least being happy can help you live longer. After all that I just mentioned it’s kind of easy to see why! Hey, don’t take my word for it go ahead and research how being happy makes you healthier, you might be surprised at what you find.
